Vida Latina Dance Co.: The AWESOME-EST Glitz Party/Practica with UQ students

I’m sure everyone’s been looking forward to this post for a while now. Well….here it goes!

It was two Thursdays ago that we were expecting all the Latin dance students from University of Queensland (we teach Salsa, Zouk & Latin Fitness classes in UQ, open to both students and staff) to join our weekly Practica as part of their course – for them to finally bust out all their moves that they have been learning over the past 5 weeks. Instead of a usual class at UQ, they put on their best dance pants on and visited our Glitz studio in Milton. They were welcomed by Simone & Ronan with mini Salsa & Bachata lessons to warm up the night.

By the time I had finished teaching the classes that evening, everyone was already in the party mode; either sashaying across the dance floor or getting pointers from our instructors. I’d have to say, I was amazed at the level of these students having learned to dance for ONLY 5 WEEKS! However, they were not the only students there as we were joined by our lovely studio students as well.

Each and every one of our instructors had the chance to dance with almost all the students there that night hailing from different parts of the world – US to Bangladesh. It was amazing to see these bright-eyed youngsters so eager to learn the art, continuously trying...

I, personally had a memorable time dancing with Andy who is here on a student exchange program from California. He was probably the most enthusiastic boy in the whole room, laughing and enjoying every part of the evening, given the fact that he did not know how to Salsa. He vaguely remembered some steps which he had learned a couple of years ago but picked up new steps that I taught him instantly (that is without failing to hit my head a couple of times).

The “ooohhh’s” & “aaahhhh’s” were a common sound that night especially when Zouk came on. How can you NOT FALL IN LOVE WITH ZOUK?! In fact, the students were blown away with our 3-boys-2-girls Zouk steals. IT WAS SOO MUCH FUN! It was definitely a lovely night of meeting, mingling and dancing...and we got them wanting more ;)
